Summer golf in Spain, why not?
Summer means holidays, more hours of light and outdoor activities, individually or with a good companion. It is a good time to practice golf. However, the high temperatures in some areas, such as the south of Spain, may dissuade some players or limit the hours they play. Fortunately, the location, the orography and the design of certain courses can make playing at this time of year truly enjoyable.
Dona Julia Golf is for many a unknown, a great discovery. It is strategically located in Costa del Sol, concretely in Casares, halfway between the bustle of the well-known Marbella and Estepona and the peace and quiet of Sotogrande.
The place is really privileged with two well differentiated courses: a mountainous one, that runs among the vegetation of the area, and another one that offers spectacular views over the Mediterranean and the African coast. Beyond the views, it is precisely this open and predominant position that makes playing in summer a pleasure.
The sea breeze can be felt throughout most of the course and provides a pleasant, non-flushing sensation and milder temperatures. Thanks to this it is possible to play, even in the hours with high temperature peaks. Few courses in the area can boast of this.
The sea can be seen in more than half of the course even from hole 1, which anticipates the rise of the terrain that the first round represents.
Hole 2, undulating and narrow, is protected by two bunkers, fairway and green. It is a balanced hole, with a wide green that will not be too complicated for most players. In addition to the views, the huge trees provides us with nice shade.
Hole 8 is one of the longest par 5 on the Costa del Sol and the highest point on the course, with three platforms. The spectacular views from the tee, ranging from the Montes de Malaga to the Rock of Gibraltar and the African coast make it worthwhile to accept the challenge that this hole represents for any type of player. It is convenient to play it straight as on the right there are out of bounds and bushes and on the left, defending the fairway and the green there are two bunkers. Finally, a green with two platforms.
Hole 12, is a long par 3, with a large defended green with a side bunker and a back bunker. The advice to reach the green is to take a long club and hit accurately, while looking at the whole Mediterranean coast.
We can also enjoy the sea views on holes 6,7,9,13 and 14.
Another point to bear in mind is that summer is the low season for many clubs so we can enjoy our favourite sport at the best price. Dona Julia Golf offers special rates both for those who want to play on time and for those who spend seasons in the area and prefer to buy memberships or green fee vouchers.
